The Environment Fund (EF) was established pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. [416] dated 19/7/1440H (26 March 2019). EF has an independent legal personality and enjoys financial and administrative autonomy. It aims to contribute to achieving the National Environment Strategy and ensuring the financial sustainability of National Centers within the environmental sector.

EF empowers efforts to protect nature, adopt circular economy practices, and improve institutional capabilities by providing integrated strategic solutions, including financial empowerment, support programs, fostering innovation, and building partnerships that drive long-term financial sustainability for the sector.

Our Role

At the Environment Fund, we seek to empower the environmental sector and ensure its financial sustainability through:

Financing approved operational budgets for National Centers within the environmental sector.

Initiating and contributing to the financing of environmental protection plans, activities, and initiatives.

Promoting environmental research, studies, and sector growth, and contributing to their funding.

Investing funds in a manner that achieves financial sustainability objectives for the environmental sector.

Funded Sectors

The Environment Fund finances National Centers to ensure they can fulfill their mandates and achieve sector-wide goals across the following areas:

Meteorology

Focuses on weather forecasting, cloud seeding programs, climate data, disaster management, meteorological infrastructure, and specialized climate services.

Wildlife and Marine Life

Dedicated to biodiversity conservation, protected areas, endangered species protection, ecosystems, and reintroduction efforts.

Vegetation Cover

Focuses on developing and protecting natural habitats, preserving plant diversity, rangeland restoration, forest sustainability, and combating desertification.

Environmental Compliance

Centers on environmental auditing, regulatory enforcement, pollution monitoring, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards and controls.

Waste Management

Focuses on promoting circular economy practices, waste collection, treatment, recycling, landfill management, and issuing related licenses.

Coral Reefs and Turtles

Focuses on protecting coral reefs and sea turtles in the Red Sea and other areas by providing safe environments for turtle nesting and coral growth, and rehabilitating damaged areas to ensure their sustainability.
